At Mitchell Drilling, we realize that we must explore new and reliable sources of energy to diversify our country’s energy needs and to create new revenue streams for our business. Even though fossil fuels remain our core competency, we are open to new ideas and new ventures.

For example, in 2002 were part of a group exploring the feasibility of producing natural gas from the desorption of methane from abandoned coal seams. After much deliberation and due diligence, Mitchell Drilling entered into a partnership and formed Illinois Methane LLC, a company created to produce coal mine methane gas to heat homes and businesses.
